HISTORY
Minstrel (often referred to as The Minstrel by her first owners) was conceived and built for a dream trip of a North Atlantic circuit. Designed by Alan Pape, the hull & deck were built on St Peter’s Quay in Totnes by Robin Feloy and Gubby Williams., with the fit-out and rigging completed at Blagdon’s yard in Plymouth. She was launched on the 26th September 1991. After proving voyages between Southwest England and Southwest Ireland, on 31st August 1992 (the crew having just married each other) she set out on the Atlantic circuit, across the Bay of Biscay, down the coasts of Spain and Portugal, and crossing to Bequia via the Canaries. After extensive island hopping via the Bahamas to the Florida coast, she followed the intra-coastal waterway up the East coast of the USA, reaching Brooklin in Maine via New York on 3rd September 1993. She re-crossed the Atlantic in 1995, and after a period of chartering in Roaring Waters Bay in 1998, was sailed to Devon for sale.
After cruising the English Channel and Brittany between 1999 and 2008, in 2010, after a major refit, she completed a clockwise circuit of Great Britain via the Caledonian Canal.
Major works have included a taller and stiffer mast with new standing rigging in 2006, a new more powerful engine in 2007, and the creation of a quarterberth and enlarged galley in 2009 with a complete rewiring. Her sail wardrobe has been regularly updated and expanded.
Minstrel is on the small ships registry No. SSR 46529, and is Category 2 MCA coded for 6.
